Comfort in Treatment: Debunking the Top Myths of Orthodontic Pain - Dante Gonzales Orthodontics

Orthodontic treatment is often associated with discomfort; it’s time to debunk the myths surrounding orthodontic pain. Contrary to popular belief, orthodontic procedures are not inherently painful, and modern advancements have made treatment more comfortable than ever before.

One common misconception is that braces are excruciatingly painful. While some discomfort may occur initially as the mouth adjusts to the braces, it is usually mild and temporary. In fact, many patients report minimal discomfort throughout their treatment journey. And patients who do experience pain also report that ibuprofen or acetaminophen provide relief.

Another myth is that orthodontic adjustments are agonizing. While adjustments may cause some pressure or soreness, they are typically short-lived and manageable with over-the-counter pain relievers or orthodontic wax. Our team takes every measure to ensure that adjustments are as comfortable as possible for our patients.

Additionally, some believe that Invisalign aligners are completely pain-free. The type of appliance moving the teeth makes very little difference. Anytime you are moving teeth, there will be some mild soreness, which usually lasts a few days. While Invisalign is generally more comfortable than traditional braces, some patients may experience temporary discomfort when transitioning to a new set of aligners or when the teeth first start moving. However, this discomfort is typically mild and subsides as the mouth adjusts.

By debunking the myths surrounding orthodontic pain, we aim to alleviate any apprehensions and empower patients to pursue the smile of their dreams with confidence and ease.
